Photography Project: Horizons
Project overview
For many years the concept of traveling for long periods of time to take photographs and truly experience this country was a dream. In 2014 we worked to make this dream a reality, and the Horizons Project was created. We planned to travel for 3 to 4 months at a time, every two years, for as long as possible. When the time was right, we would pack up our four wheel drive and camper trailer, and truly escape as a family. The places we visited, the memories we made and the photographs we captured were a life changing experience.
The trips
2014 - 3 months on the road
We left Canberra with great anticipation, to travel across the Nullarbour and into Western Australia. We visited the great southern and got as far north as Karijini. We ventured home a similar way, and were left wanting far more.
2016 - 4 months on the road
Northern Horizon
(Gallery coming soon)
Our biggest trip of the project. We traveled to South Australia, then north to the Kimberley and then east across the top of Australia to the tropics in Queensland. We then headed home along the east coast. This was the trip of diversity, with so many types of regions visited.
2018 - 2 months on the road
Southern Horizon
(Gallery coming soon)
We headed to south to our beloved Tasmania to experience all the island has to offer for a good period of time. It was wet, it was windy, we were tested and rewarded all in the span of this amazing journey.
2023- 3 months on the road
Reaching the Horizon
(Gallery coming soon)
After a gap in the plan, we undertook one final Horizons trip. We wanted to visit new locations and re-visit the places that we found really special. We headed north through Queensland and got to northern Western Australia with two months to drift south and then home. A special way to end this project.
