Beauchamp Falls, Great Otway National Park, Victoria, Australia
I had been watching the weather in the Otway's for some months, watching just how much rain the area had received. I wanted to visit when the area was bursting with water. I originally visited here in 2007 in the middle of Summer and the timing was all wrong. There was little water flowing over any of the waterfalls in this region and I had to work hard to even find a composition. The photographs I came away with were average and I promised myself that if I went back, it would be at the most opportune time.
I camped the night before at the start of the trail into these falls. There was so much water around that the ground was soaked, like a giant sponge. I knew the timing was right but I had to wait for the right, overcast weather. I spent several days waiting, checking locations, and early on my last morning I made my way down the lush track. There is always that moment when you here a waterfall for the first time when visiting. I made my way down stream from the viewing area, to offer some context of the valley floor surrounding this amazing location.
